This afternoon's bike ride from Burgess Hill meandered through some quiet trails and trails parallel to Brighton Road into Hassocks.

From Hassocks, the path took the ride via Underhill Lane with lovely views of the South Downs. This part of the ride was very hilly and did require extra effort.

Underhill Lane
On the way to the parish of Clayton, there was a momentary stop to allow two phlegmatic horses and their riders to pass by on a narrow path. The church at Clayton appeared to be pretty old and was flanked by high growing Yew trees.

Just crossing over the Brighton Road rendered couple of congenial views - the Clayton Tunnel and the Jack & Jill Windmills.
Clayton Tunnel
As I was taking a picture of the windmills, an express train whisked past unannounced! I barely got time to take the picture as the train went by.
From here on, the narrow path led to the charming town of Hurstpierpoint which has an imposing Church in town center.
On the way back to Burgess Hill, the path took us through the famous Hurstpierpoint College (private school for boys and girls) which also houses a sizeable Chapel. On the other side, there was a girls cricket match in progress. As I turned corner, and glanced at the digital scoreboard the batting side were 77 for 3 which seems rather respectable. From here on, the side roads took us into Burgess Hill.
Cheers!
